Another nice performance during our Museum Night: Crowd DJ is a dance controlled interactive sound mixer that gives the crowd control over the musical output. Each area of the dance floor activates a sound channel. But, when the dancing stops, the music will immediately shut down – demanding that the crowd is constantly active and keep the energy going. Via PanAm in competition for IDFA DocLab award for Digital Storytelling
The Via PanAm iPad app is in competition for the 2011 IDFA DocLab Award for Digital Storytelling. DocLab is the new media program of IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), showcasing new forms of documentary storytelling, digital technology and media art. The festival takes place from 16-27 November 2011. The winner will be announced on Saturday 25th of November.

The title of the exhibition was suggested by Henrik Ibsen's play An Enemy of the People (1882), and underlines Laumann's politicised approach to the aesthetics and ethics of art and documentary film. The exhibition's emphasis on collaboration connects directly to Laumann's interest in finding alternative ways of working and modes of representation that avoid reinforcing the dominant ideologies of contemporary culture, that aim instead towards the imagination of a world that is at once stranger, and more humane.

Vrijdag 28 oktober opening tentoonstelling Knoalster van Eva Gjaltema door de gedeputeerde van Cultuur Piet de Vey Mestdagh in de Noorderlicht Fotogalerie, in aanwezigheid van de fotograaf. Na twaalf jaar wonen in de Randstad blikt Eva Gjaltema (1979) terug op haar jeugd in Stadskanaal. De tentoonstelling is het resultaat van de Post Middendorp Opdracht 2010.

Op vrijdag 28 oktober en zaterdag 29 oktober, om 20:30 uur, presenteert If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution de eerste heropvoering van Five Sisters (1982) van Guy de Cointet in Frascati WG in Amsterdam. Na de première in Amsterdam zal Five Sisters opgevoerd worden in STUK kunstencentrum in Leuven op 3 en 4 november, en in het museum MUSAC in León (Spanje) op 12 november. Nieuws - Ingenieursbureau Witteveen+Bos
Composer, theatre maker and theoretician Dick Raaijmakers receives the Witteveen+Bos Art+Technology award 2011. He was one of the founders of Dutch electronic music in the 1950s and was a multimedia artist years ahead of his time. His original ideas and novel approaches to art have inspired many, not in the least later generations of artists. The award ceremony takes place on 10 November in the Bergkerk in Deventer. The accompanying exhibition can be visited opened until 4 December.

The Great Indoors Award 2011
On 4 November The Great Expectations Award will be rewarded to the best student project in The Great Indoors Education Programme. The winning student project will be selected by the designers that are nominated for The Great Indoors Award 2011. The competing teams are from: Design Academy Eindhoven; ABKM, Maastricht; Fachhochschule Düsseldorf; and BLIDS Masters, Provinciale Hogeschool Limburg, Hasselt. Noorderlicht / Fotomanifestatie / Metropolis / In the World of Socialism
Gisteren hebben we zelf een kijkje genomen in het Veenkoloniaal Museum in Veendam. De satelliet expositie die daar nog hangt van Andris Kozlovskis, In the World of Socialism, is beslist de moeite waard. De foto's zijn genomen met een omgebouwde digitale camera die infrarode straling accepteert - het onzichtbare licht. Deze techniek gebruikt Kozlovskis als metafoor voor de onzichtbaarheid van het verleden in de huidige werkelijkheid.
De tentoonstelling loopt nog tot 6 november, gaan dus!

Make a Forest | Wild-S
Behalve After the Bit Rush gaat dit weekend ook een nieuw project in ons tijdelijke bos, Wild-S van start. MU neemt deel aan het wereldwijde Make a Forest en heeft een aantal ontwerpers en kunstenaars uitgenodigd om artificiële bomen te maken en te presenteren. Dit ‘bos in het bos’ wordt geopend op zondag 23 oktober tussen 14.00 en 16.00 uur met een 'open-air lezingen programma' in het Wild-S paviljoen op Strijp-S. Wees welkom!

De Volkskrant heeft bekend gemaakt dat Rory Pilgrim is genomineerd voor de Volkskrant Kunst Prijs 2012. Rory Pilgrim was afgelopen zomer resident bij Kunsthuis SYB en creëerde daar het werk 'De Stille Revolutie'.
De andere genomineerden zijn: David Jablonowski, Sarah van Sonsbeeck, Tala Madani en Charlotte Dumas. De winnaar zal in het voorjaar van 2012 in een live uitzending van KunststofTV worden bekendgemaakt (exacte datum is nog niet bekend).
Kunsthuis SYB feliciteert Rory Pilgrim en de andere deelnemers met hun nominatie.

Dan Geesin – momenteel gastkunstenaar bij Kunst in Kolderveen - heeft afgelopen vrijdag het Gouden Kalf in ontvangst mogen nemen in de categorie Korte Film.
Olifantenvoeten is de titel van de nieuwe film van beeldend kunstenaar, componist en fimmaker Geesin. Josh Meyers (vooral bekend van ‘That ’70 Show’ en ‘Boom Chicago) speelt de rol van Thomas, een van oorsprong Amerikaanse allochtoon, die tijdens zijn eerste nachtdienst op een tankstation nogal onverwachte dingen meemaakt. Lastige klanten, een benzinedief, een onverstoorbare zwerver en een passerend vrijgezellenfeest maken hem duidelijk dat hij een vreemdeling is in een vreemd land. Maar er komt contact van onverwachte zijde.

Beste Korte Film 2011 OLIFANTENVOETEN van Dan Geesin
Sterk verbeeld, erg geestig en haast onopgemerkt van grote zeggingskracht. De regisseur weet de essentie van wat hij wil vertellen zeer goed te treffen. Zorgvuldig en efficiënt gaat hij om met de filmtaal waarvoor hij gekozen heeft. Geen shot is overbodig en hij excelleert in het
vangen van net die blik en net dat ene zinnetje, waardoor er snel een prachtig beeld van het
hoofdpersonage ontstaat. In de beperkte tijd die de regisseur heeft om dit verhaal te vertellen
neemt hij de rust om de kijker onder te dompelen in de vervreemdende sfeer van de nacht
waarin deze film zich afspeelt. De winnaar van het Gouden Kalf voor de Beste Korte Film 2011 is OLIFANTENVOETEN van Dan Geesin.
Dan Geesin is vanaf september bij KiK aan het werk in de Kaashal en het atelier. Onder de titel Models and Metaphores staat een enorme groep 'beelden' die bijna allemaal beter als tekeningen kunnen worden 'gelezen', want Geesin is volgens hemzelf geen beeldhouwer. Daarnaast werkt hij aan een enorme installatie.
Daarnaast geeft hij gedurende Oktobermaand Kindermaand workshops voor basisschoolkinderen. Samen met hem maken ze in drie stappen een videoclip in ‘de ruimtelijke tekening’. Opgave is mogelijk via stichtingkik@xs4all.nl of via de website van KiK.

Kortom Dan Geesin moet je komen beleven, hij zal ieder met enthousiasme ontvangen en elke bezoeker zal versteld staan van zijn krachtige beelden opgebouwd met zulke eenvoudige en natuurlijke materialen. De expositie is elke vrijdag- en zondagmiddag te bezichtigen.
Op zondag 30 oktober om 17.30 uur bent u van harte uitgenodigd voor een rondleiding langs ‘Models and Metaphores’ door Leo Delfgaauw. Daarna volgt muziek en worden de beelden ritueel verbrand.

Please join us this weekend for the newspaper release at Noordkaaps projectspace in Dordrecht & get your new edition of the Noordkaap Times researching the influence of Populism in European society. With contributions by: Pelin Tan (TR), Bas Heijne (NL), Burak Delier (TR), Jonas Staal (NL) and more.
During the Open Atelierroute in Dordrecht, a selection of works that evolved during our current EU Tour will continously be screened. The first two cities wereMunich and Istanbul.

Noordkaap Times II/ Istanbul
A sneak preview on the content: Dutch writer and columnist of the NRC, Bas Heijne, wrote a column about Dutch nationalism and populist politicians like Pim Fortuyn and Geert Wilders. Bart Nijstad, a cartoon artist from Groningen , contributed with a part of his comic "Muggen", which deals with populism. Curator/ writer Pelin Tan from Istanbul wrote the leading article about urban planning in Istanbuls Tophane district, a transitional area between the cultural entertainment center of Beyoglu and various residential neighborhoods. Dutch artist Jonas Staal spoke about ideology in critical art practice, artistduo Wouter Osterholt & Elke Uitentuis tell us something about the project during their residency program of the Fonds BKVB in Istanbul; "Monument to Humanity – Helping Hands. A proposal for a new Monument to Humanity in Kars, Turkey". A substantial part of this edition is about the recent works of Turkish artist Burak Delier. We showcase how one of his artprojects has been confiscated by unexpected political movements.

From the 17th of October the Noordkaap Times is for sale (€2,) at the following distribution points: STROOM The Hague, W139 Amsterdam, Roodkapje's café De Burgertrut in Rotterdam, Museum De Paviljoens Almere, Museum of Modern Art Arnhem, SIGN Groningen and during the SKOR symposium "Social Housing - Housing the Social" at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam (4-5 November 2011). In Istanbul the newspaper is spread through artist initiative 5533 and culture and debate center DEPO.
About the Noordkaap Times
The exhibitions and projects of the European Tour (2011-2012) are provided with substantial depth and background content through the accompanying publication, the Noordkaap Times. In this newspaper, the artworks and exhibition locations are linked to one another through anecdotes, background stories, results, photos of the various art projects, and so on. Cultural philosophers, sociologists, curators and art historians contribute to the newspaper. As such, the newspaper offers theoretical deepening of the subject matter. Authors hail from the Netherlands and from the cities that Noordkaap goes to.
In every city a new Noordkaap Times appears. The newspapers are printed on a 24 x 35 cm format, in an edition of 3000. They are distributed in the European host cities, and through presentation venues in the Netherlands. At the end of the tour the six publications together form the catalog.
Graphic designer Marleen Oud (Middelharnis, 1971) is responsible for the design of the newspaper. Oud studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven until 1996. The design of the Noordkaap Times is based on the format of the most popular local newspaper. In Munich this was the Tageszeitung and in Istanbul the Hürriyet. Art journalist Lennard Dost (Veendam, 1976) is connected to the newspaper as editor and coordinator. Dost studied Art History at the University of Groningen and writes about art for Dutch and Belgian newspapers and magazines (<h>ART, Het Parool).

Noordkaap in München
In zeven Europese steden (München, Istanbul, Keulen, Budapest, Lissabon, Brussel en Rotterdam) maken we de komende twee jaar tentoonstellingen, waarvoor deelnemende kunstenaars op locatie nieuw werk produceren. De kunstenaars wordt gevraagd te reageren op lokale fenomenen, volksgebruiken en actuele, maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen in de desbetreffende stad. De EU tour start met de tentoonstelling 'Adios Holanda', in München, met:

Noordkaap wil met Adios Holanda een breed publiek interesseren voor het fenomeen populisme. Performancekunstenaar en verhalenverteller Abner Preis transformeert daartoe een braakliggend terrein vlakbij de whiteBOX in een Superhero trainingscamp. Tassilo Letzel, woont en werkt in München, neemt je per fiets mee naar zijn lievelingsoorden in zijn stad. Plekken die exemplarisch zijn voor de manier waarop de stedelijke omgeving de afgelopen jaren is veranderd. Fabian Hesse, eveneens uit München, leest tijdens een marathonperformance voor uit het Burgerlijk Wetboek van Duitsland en de Nederlandse kunstenaar Daan den Houter ontvangt je aan zijn, qua gigantische stamtafel.

Bij iedere stad die Noordkaap aandoet, verschijnt een nummer van de Noordkaap Times, een krant met daarin columns, previews, achtergrondartikelen, kunstenaarsbijdragen et cetera. In de eerste editie vind je onder andere bijdragen van kunstenaars Federico d’Orazio en Arturo Hernández Alcázar. Kunstcriticus Machteld Leij schreef een tekst over de manier waarop de Nederlandse kunstwereld reageert op het opkomende populisme. En socioloog en politicoloog Merijn Oudenampsen probeert de opkomst van het populisme te verklaren aan de hand van het werk van politicologen Chantal Mouffe en Ernesto Laclau. De krant is tijdens de tentoonstelling verkrijgbaar in de whiteBOX, en kost slechts €2,-.
Partners
Noordkaap werkt tijdens dit Europese project samen met lokale en internationale partners. In München zijn dat Lothringer13 Laden, de whiteBOX en Der Verein für Spielkultur München, die superhelden oproept zich aan te melden voor het trainingskamp van Abner Preis. Het onafhankelijke kunstenaarsinitiatief Extrapool uit Nijmegen reist met Noordkaap mee door Europa, en realiseert, als onderdeel van de Audiotoop serie, tijdens de tournee terplekke, met behulp van lokale kunstenaars, hoorspelen. Ook wordt in opdracht van Extrapool door lokale kunstenaars behang gemaakt, als onderdeel van de serie SLIMTARRA.

München behoort tot de belangrijkste economische en culturele centra in de Bondsrepubliek. Een stad waar je struikelt over de clichés: thuisstad van het grootste jaarlijkse bierfeest ter wereld, het BMW museum, met F.C. Bayern München, braadworst en lederhosen. Naast een overvloed aan volkscultuur en populistisch erfgoed is dit ook de stad van de altijd uitverkochte opera's, de drukbezochte openingen van tentoonstellingen en de zeer respectabele positie van kunst met de grote K.
München is rijk, extreem schoon en de straatkrant wordt in de vorm van een glossy aangeboden in metrostations waar dag en nacht klassieke muziek uit de luidsprekers klinkt. Een stad waar je je op het eerste gezicht waant in een sprookje voor de rich and famous, die er in slaagt dit sprookje veilig te stellen door alles wat vreemd, vies en armetierig is buiten te sluiten.
Zo schrijft Max Pam: "Als er nog een tweede financiële crisis aankomt, kun je maar het beste naar München vluchten, want het lijkt wel of de eerste crisis aan die stad totaal voorbij is gegaan. Het historische centrum straalt een rijkdom uit, die wij in Nederland nauwelijks kennen. Zelden zoveel juwelierswinkels bij elkaar gezien. En dan heb ik het niet over juwelierswinkels van het lommerdachtige type, waar je ook een horloge of een paar Zeeuwse knoopjes heen kunt brengen, maar van die zaken waar je eerst een afspraak moet maken om er überhaupt naar binnen te mogen.
