De Eeuwige Optie (Lenno Verhoog en Marit Shalem = SpOp)
Het woord Optie is geleend uit het jargon van de economie.
Terwijl de economische betekenis ‘een in tijd beperkte prijsafspraak’ luidt, wordt het begrip in deze film juist omgedraaid tot ‘een terugkerende golf van mogelijkheden’.
De Eeuwige Optie refereert aan het vermogen van de groep om tolerant te staan tegenover geluiden van buitenaf. Het vinden van een balans tussen eigenbelang en open staan voor vreemde elementen. Verder ook tussen praktisch, efficient en doelgericht handelen tegenover een gevoel voor poëzie en empathie. Het motto van deze film wordt door het personage Taylor verwoord: “Elke constructie blijft een reconstructie van het oorspronkelijke idee”.
De gecollageerde visualisatie van De Eeuwige Optie verleidt de toeschouwer om over het verhaal heen naar mogelijke interpretaties te kijken.
Synopsis:
De film De Eeuwige Optie is een symboliek dragende fictie. Het personage Corpus staat voor een meta-organisme dat in een ziekelijke toestand verkeert. De film volgt het volk van de Enzymen binnen het lichaam van Corpus. Dit volk, strevend naar vooruitgang en vrijheid is bezig met het construeren van een apparaat dat hun werkwijze zal verbeteren. De komst van een alziende mythische figuur -Taylor- brengt hen geheel uit balans; een turbulentie die directe invloed heeft op de toestand van Corpus zelf. De Eeuwige Optie speelt zich op drie verschillende lagen van tijd af en presenteert daarbij drie verschillende soorten personages. Deze personages zijn in feite met elkaar verweven. Binnen een dag in Corpus’ leven gaan er drie generaties van het Enzymenvolk voorbij en een fragment in het eeuwig bestaan van Taylor. Vragen over de omgang met kennis, macht, vrijheid en de zin van productie komen aan de orde. Macro- en micro- niveaus, realiteit en hallucinatie blijken van elkaar afhankelijk te zijn. Het functioneren van een groep en de verhouding tussen eenheid en pluralisme vormen het kernidee van deze experimentele film.

Over SpOp en Zoikle
SpOp is een samenwerkingsverband tussen kunstenaar Marit Shalem en media designer Lenno Verhoog. De artistieke projecten worden meestal door Shalem geïnitieerd. Deze komen voort uit haar eigen globaal
project Points for Production (zie pointsforproduction.org). De projecten gaan over de verhouding tussen artistieke en commerciële productie waarbij termen uit het jargon van kapitaal-economie van een
nieuwe context en betekenis worden voorzien. SpOp heeft in de loop van de laatste negen jaar een markant eigen handschrift ontwikkeld. De gefilmde acteurs bewegen zich in een wereld bestaand uit geschilderde vlaktes, grafische elementen, film- en fotofragmenten, props en digitale bewerking. Middels deze gelaagde ruimtelijkheid streeft SpOp ernaar de toeschouwer te verlokken en tegelijk een openheid te bieden.
Zijverwijst hiermee vaak naar de dominante 'gladde' beeldtaal van commercie.
De films van SpOp vallen in de niche van experimentele film. Zij nestelen zich tussen beeldende kunst en lineaire film.

Zoikle is een nieuwe band maar met veel ervaring. Elk der muzikanten (G.W. Sok, Lukas Simonis, Nina Hitz, Cor Hoogerdijk) kent een rijk verleden in de alternatieve muziekcultuur. Sok speelde 30 jaar lang in
de internationaal vermaarde undergroundformatie The Ex, Simonis is actief in het Rotterdamse Coolhaven en speelde verder o.a. in Dull Schicksal, Trespassers W (samen met Hoogerdijk) en Liana Flu Winks
(samen met Hitz, die in 2004 afstudeerde aan het Haagse Conservatorium). De band ontstond tijdens het vastleggen van de muziek voor de film De Eeuwige Optie. Het werken aan de twee 'Illusies' bracht onverwachte
maar verfrissende muzikale ideeën op tafel en deed daarom verlangen naar een echte band. Inmiddels staan er zes songs op het repertoire en wordt er gewerkt aan meer. De open sound van de licht-elektrisch/semiacoustische muziek en poëtische teksten boren hierbij interessante nieuwe creatieve bronnen aan.

Lezing Bas Heijne
Op 5 februari verzorgt Bas Heijne een lezing bij Out of Storage in de Timmerfabriek in Maastricht.
In zijn lezing gaat Heijne in op de kwesties die hij in zijn recente essays Moeten wij van elkaar houden?en Echt zien onderzoekt. Volgens hem is het naoorlogse, humanistische wereldbeeld hopeloos verbleekt. Overal dienen zich heftige reacties aan. In de politiek heerst het populisme, dat de nadruk legt op eigenheid en culturele verwantschap. Het natuurbeleid staat onder druk; er wordt driftig tegen heilige huisjes aangetrapt. En tot ontzetting van velen is het draagvlak voor de kunsten de afgelopen jaren smaller geworden. Deze reacties staan volgens Heijne niet op zichzelf; in zijn lezing schetst hij wat de onderliggende motieven zijn en gaat hij op zoek naar mogelijke antwoorden.

EASTPAK Nederland and MAMA invited the finest Dutch artists to design a unique EASTPAK Bag, for the EASTPAK Artist Studio Project, to be presented at the RAW ART FAIR.
The official launch of the EASTPAK Artist Studio Holland occurs during the opening of RAW on the 8th of February 15.00 hrs with a performance of one of the Artist Studio artists Rude Boy (Urban Dance Squad, Junkie XL).
