The Voice of Dordrecht presenteert: Plastic People's Party op woensdag 4 juli in club Dolhuis

In september zijn er verkiezingen in Nederland. De politieke partijen ruziën met name over Europa en over de bezuinigingen. Johannes Brechter (München) ging in juni opzoek naar wat Dordtse jongeren belangrijk vinden en wat zij willen veranderen in Dordrecht, in Nederland of in Europa. Met zijn mobiele workshop-bike fietstte de kunstenaar, samen met jongerenwerkers van De Twern, langs wijkfeesten in Crabbehof, Nieuw-Krispijn, Sterrrenburg en Wielwijk. Jongeren konden ter plekke lid worden van zijn imaginaire Plastic People's Party door mee te doen met de workshops. Hierin maakten de deelnemers van gerecycled plastic miniatuur woordvoerders van zichzelf, gaven de woordvoerders een stem en werkten mee aan het maken van een videoclip van de nieuwe partij.
Op woensdag 4 juli is de premiere van de videoclip in Club Dolhuis. Iedereen is van harte welkom om te komen kijken naar een bijzondere nieuwe partij met wetten door jongeren uit de Dordtse buitenwijken.

Brechter, die van start ging als straatartiest, is vooral bekend vanwege zijn installaties in de stad en op straat en om zijn favoriete materiaal: plastic. Van bestaand afvalmateriaal als melkflessen, reclame stickers en bekers creëert hij comic-achtige figuren die duidelijk tot een eigen subcultuurtje horen. Skaters, straatvegers of speciale militaire eenheden liggen in de haven, kruipen rond onder bruggen en metrostations of hangen in openbare straatverlichting. Brechters skatersmentaliteit, waarmee hij de stedelijke ruimte telkens vanuit verrassende hoeken ervaart en verkent, vormt het uitgangspunt voor zijn onaangekondigde stadsinterventies.Brechter reist met Noordkaap mee naar Istanbul, Lissabon en Dordrecht.
Gedurende twee jaar onderzoekt Noordkaap vanuit de hedendaagse kunst de invloed van populistische stromingen op de Europese samenleving. Noordkaap maakt een groeiende tentoonstelling in 6 steden in Europa. In het project The Voice of Dordrecht worden jongeren uit de Drechtsteden actief bij het internationale programma betrokken door vanuit hun eigen beleving op de kunstprojecten van Noordkaap te reageren. Workshopleiders zijn kunstenaars die met Noordkaap op reis zijn. Noordkaap biedt een platform waar de jongeren hun eigen talenten kunnen ontwikkelen.
Eerdere workshops waren: Muntjesproject o.l.v. Daan den Houter met leerlingen van het Dalton Lyceum, Dangerous Dordrecht o.l.v. Federico D' Orazio met jongeren uit Oud- en Nieuw Krispijn, Campagne voor een Kunstwerk, o.l.v. collectief Foundland met leerlingen van het Insula College.

We hebben ons, sinds onze oprichting in 2004, ontwikkeld tot een professionele presentatie instelling. Om te blijven groeien en ontwikkelen en ons publiek beter te kunnen bedienen, is het voor KOP belangrijk een nieuwe fase in te gaan. Dit doen we met de verhuizing naar het Huis voor Beeldcultuur (Reigerstraat 16).
De verhuizing heeft geen invloed op het programma aanbod van KOP. Ook in het Huis voor Beeldcultuur blijven we onze eigen exposities vormgeven en presenteren. En ook KOP activiteiten zoals Rond een uur of vier..., Meet the Makers en de Speeddate blijven op de agenda staan.
Vanaf 1 september vind je ons dus in het centrum van Breda. Een bezoek aan KOP kun je dan gemakkelijk combineren met andere leuke culturele dingen in Breda, of met een middagje shoppen natuurlijk! En over shoppen gesproken; ook de KOPshop krijgt een permanente plek in het Huis voor Beeldcultuur. Deze kun je dus alvast toevoegen aan je lijstje met vaste shopadressen.
